Meta—Seller Verification
Amidst the rapid growth of the online marketplace during the pandemic in 2020, the state of Arkansas passed a bill that required e-commerce marketplaces like IG+FB Shops to verify and disclose seller information for consumer protection. In 2021, the state of Ohio followed with a similar bill, and the US Congress was preparing to pass a comparable law at the federal level. To help over 10 million sellers in the US comply with the law, I worked directly with legal counsel to design and implement the seller verification flow. The flow successfully launched in two milestones—the Arkansas INFORM Act SB470 and the Federal INFORM Consumers Act. The flow also anticipated the upcoming EU regulation, scheduled to launch by 2024.

To ensure the trust and safety of e-commerce consumers, government agencies have passed regulations to verify and disclose seller information. Navigating the evolving state and federal legislation was challenging, as the bill's definition remained in flux. To authoritatively collect legal information, the seller required a dedicated communication module that reflected the various seller statuses, such as pre-verified, pending, and verified.
